crooked

everything mends just a little bit crooked.

i lock up the doors and crack the windows open.
they cut the tree in the alley, and i knew it the morning after.
just the barren rings left behind.
bleeding sap.

bending in the garden, surrounded by the bulbs,
i hear my father speak.

the sap is healing.

i thought i was witnessing the end.
but there is some peace
in being wrong.

our voices pass in waves through the telephone lines
and i know her laugh like i know the sky.
we tell stories
like we are prophets.
and i cannot speak about her without comparing her to everything i see.
because her presence remains.

she left though.
they left.
i am a barren tree, alone in the alley.
bleeding sap.

but if you bend in the garden you hear my Father speak.

the sap is healing.

the wound closes, perhaps a bit crookedly.
and i wince at the thought of fingers
passing over that place.
but it will heal.

everything mends just a little bit crooked.

  1. MY HEART. aww THIS is so sweet and touching and beautiful and heart-wrenching and beautiful at the same time. oh man. this is like...epic. but that's not the right word either -- this is just so inexpressibly touching to the human soul.

  2. I can't even find the words to let you know anything. But I think it's along the lines of cold fingers and the feeling after laughing really hard and when a day goes really good and the sun is out. It's also the picture where we look like we're screaming to the sky.

ohmygosh i just mISS YOU SO MUCH AND I NEED MY JAM BUDDY. *screams a lot and jumps around*

  7. I was just sitting at the dining room table with my sister this morning, and we were talking about our favorite blogs, and I was telling her how your blog is the blog that makes me literally drop whatever I am doing and read when I see a new post pop up in my feed. Your writing makes my soul ache in a good way because it just SOOO RESONATES. You are a treasure, word maker girl. WOW.

This one was like...I wanted to copy and paste an excerpt, but then there was another and another and eventually it just would have been the whole thing :') gracious this is pure beaut.

  9. comparing the ways of nature to the nature of humans is one thing i love reading and writing about. it puts things in a perspective that's bigger than us. almost like nature has struggles and heartache like us,
except in a different way for they are just wood and dirt.
while we are living, breathing, flesh with souls.
and a Mighty Father heals us; who makes that crooked result more beautiful than the straight.

    beautiful words.
never stop spilling your heart to your readers, dearest <3
