i stepped forward.

i stepped forward and handed you the truth.

well, maybe i shouldn't say it that way.
i threw the truth at you.
like a sailor to another sailor
like a man on the boat
will throw the rope
to a dying man.

you stepped backwards.

for a second,
it was like you had punched me in the heart.

because you didn't want the truth.

you wanted something comfortable,
not everything.
not the rope i so desperately wanted you to take.

and i was wrong.
i was wrong to so desperately care about you.
you did not need the rope.

you needed me to look you in the eyes
and push you off the edge
from the place we had been.

i don't just care about you anymore.
no, we are beyond that.
i love you.
and that is why

i am letting you go.

xoxo

p.s. please send up prayers for a lost boy i know who doesn't want to come home yet.
thank you, darlings.

  11. Dear Adelaide,

I just found your blog (via the lovely Cally) and gosh. Your words and style hit me right in the heart. <3 "i threw the truth at you. like a sailor to another sailor; like a man on the boat will throw the rope to a dying man." < wow, wow, wowww. Gah. I can relate so much to this -- it's so true. May God wrap His arms around you and give you peace. Keep writing, you are a beautiful and courageous soldier.

  15. You just illustrated all of my deepest fears in a poem. I'm terrified of letting go, of it all turning out to be a lie, of being abandoned and left alone. I'm a committed, loyal person who falls in love too easily and holds on too tightly.
    Beautiful words, dear.
And thoughts and prayers for your lost boy. <3
