useless

i don't know if you know this, but

i am quite useless.

i wake up at half past seven,

stare at the wood panels above me.

and then try to pull myself from the covers

that i wrinkled past recall.

(you must know

that i sleep

like one who is

not very sleepy.)

and i remember the night before

where i stretched out my hands into

the light

from the waxing moon

at half past ten

when i should've been sleeping.

but i couldn't resist.

i can never resist.

and every time i try to fall asleep

that moon plays on my eyelids

and whispers my name.

(you must know

that i listen

when i hear

that voice.)

so one day, you are going to wake up

and realize that i am quite useless.

but we'll make pancakes

at half past seven.

and i think you're going to love me anyways.
