revealed
this life is revealed to us with fire. but it isn't the flame, the scorch, the inferno. it is the slow burn. the smoldering of things. the words we put down to paper, hoping they will be kindled, and yet afraid when they go up in smoke.
we fear the fire.
we fear the slow pain that will bring revelation.
because what are we going to see when the outer is peeled away? veil upon veil is stripped, and the heart of what we are comes clean.
revealed.
we are so very good at concealing ourselves. so good, in fact, that we slowly become what we pretend we ought to be. counterfeit fills our minds, and we brim with false life.
but this is not about life.
this is about death.
every leaf is going to fall to the ground and die, and all imitation shall be cast off, and we shall be face to face with the bareness of what it means to be real. it is not always beautiful, even if you have eyes to see it.
revealed.
the death of Christ revealed in me. death is not beautiful. it is hardly poetic. but it will be my healing
in the end..
Amen.
ReplyDeleteI'm memorizing 1 Peter 1 right now and when I read this, the part from that chapter that popped into my head was:
"According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power and being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this, you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith--more precious than gold, which perishes though it is tested by fire--may be found to result in praise and honor and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ."
aghghghhgahhahgahgha. 1 peter has been really important for us lately. and i'm glad. ♥
