Old Soul

They tell you you're an old soul.

Someone who misses a time she can't remember.

You read the words, and you walk the empty roads that lack the familiar smell of gasoline, and you treasure moments more than things, and you dream, dream, dream.

I was talking with my Grandmother the other day, and I told her that I didn't fit here.

She nodded.

anachronism
      noun anach·ro·nism \ə-ˈna-krə-ˌni-zəm\

: a person or a thing that seems to belong to the past and not to fit in the present

That was the word she used.

It can feel pretty lonely sometimes.

It can feel lonely when your soul is old and your body is young.

But could there be something deeper than I had thought at first? Something stronger than being an old soul?

"Instead, they were longing for a better country--a heavenly one." (Hebrews 11:16)

Something older than the old world. Something better than the seen world. Something stronger.

And no one knows better than our Savior. No one can feel pain like he did. One who was the very Son of God, who had seen and known all, sitting on the dusty road.

He knew loneliness, as well as He knew triumph.

"Who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. (Philippians 2:6-7)

Emptied Himself.

To a world that wasn't His, for a hope of a better country.

They tell you you're an old soul.

And you know you don't belong here, but neither did He.

An old soul, headed for an old country.

Ready to go home.

xoxo

  3. I think if I think of it, I am an old soul, too. Both of my grandmothers are around the age of 75, and they both say that I act as if I have seen more than they have even with my short timespan of being alive. I can feel this resonating with all of the bones in my body <3

    xoxo Morning

    1. Yesss! I'm so glad you know the feeling.

I'm also super glad because it feels like I know many people with the old souls now...I suppose we kind of find each other out.
