Don't Change

Poppies

You smirk at the computer,
and I write.

Lunch cooking in the oven.

We've been through a lot of years,
over a lot of thresholds
through a lot of forests.

You stand and walk to the window,
and I watch.

You've grown older.

So have I.

We're not children anymore.

And even though we don't say much,
you know me and I know you.

You know I'm afraid.

I know you feel alone.

But we're seeing the fruit of our labor,
and the smoke of our battles,
and the heat of our triumphs.

Don't let time change you too much,
and I won't let it change me.

We'll stay young at heart.

You wiggle your eyebrows,
and I laugh.

Don't change too much.

The timer on the oven rings
and you stand up to get it.

Don't change too much.

xoxo

  3. I loved how things were when I was younger... yes, I wish change did not occur as often as it does.

  5. THIS. Oh yes, people change so much as we grow up, and sometimes I want to shout, "don't change too much." Sometimes that change is just maturity, but sometimes it's a change for the worse.
I miss things from when I was younger, but I think that change has allowed me to meet more amazing people and to become more of the person that God wants me to be.
This post gave me so much joy and so much to think about. Thanks for all of your amazing posts, they never cease to amaze me.

    1. Amen!!

These are thoughts bathed in truth. The change that God brings about is sometimes hard to accept, but it DOES change us into who He wants us to become!
