A Long Way

We've got a long way to go from here.

The way is steep and dark,

and the fields are filled with flowers that wither and go out.

But there will be more dawns and shadowy days,

than you could ever hope for,

and the roads will be lined with the trees

you planted in your youth.

We've got a long way to go from here.

But we'll find our way home.

Our lungs are burning with the hidden fire,

and we're starting to smell smoke.

Because it always hurts to light the dead forest

and it hurts to watch it burn.

And it's hard to tear down what you planted,

even if they were just weeds and decay.

We've got a long way to go from here.

But He will lead us home.

And I can promise that we'll find what we were always looking for

in the end.

And that end will turn into every beginning

we could ever hope for.
