waiting

i tucked my legs underneath me and sat down to watch the sunrise.

but you sat down in the chair next to me.
your voice was tired and rough
and my fingers were cold.

you told me the story of light
that could expose your bones.

and i remembered all the times
they had told you that you
knew too little
to matter.

and i remembered all the times
they had told you that you
were the line to a song
no one was going to listen to.

but i tucked my legs underneath me, and i ended up missing the sunrise
because i was watching something else.

and if you could've exposed my bones
to look into my rib-cage
you would've seen my poor heart
nearly cracked open with the pleasure
of you
being there.

and they told you that no one was going to wait for you.

but here i am.
waiting.

CHRISTMAS TREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

i wrapped my arms around it and nearly wept with happiness.
