fall in love

i never wanted to fall in love for me.

because that's not real love.
that kind of love fades
it thinks of itself first.
thinks of how it can protect itself.
how it can heal itself.
how it can make itself comfortable.
               --
but it does all this under the guise
of protecting the one who shares it.
for surely, i am in love.
and then before it realizes it,
the poison of self has destroyed every fragile leaf that ever grew.
and it dies.

but to fall in love for us.

because that's Kingslove.
a deep love, that is almost too much to talk about.
a true love that is never dimmed.
that thinks of it's people first.
thinks of how it can protect the fearful, with no thought to the fear
how it can heal the damaged.
how it can bend it's bleeding knees to bear up the weight of someone else.
                --
but it does all this under the shadow
of being nothing but sand beneath the Feet of the One Who walks on the heights.
for surely, i am of Love.
and then before it realizes it,
the beauty of God has buried it's roots so far down that it will never die.
and it lives.

selfish love is no love at all.
selfless love is uncommon.
Lord have mercy on me.
