raised

i wondered at love
and i wandered at sea
trying to unravel
who i used to be.

because ships have ports
and he has you
but what do i have
to come home to?

i had once been so fickle
and i broke what i knew

took the bread for a stone
and the false for the true.

so how did i grow?
when there was nothing at seed.
just brier and thorn
growing down inside me.

but it is so clear to me
from where i now stand
God raises a child
instead of a man.
