i know you

some things that help you to really understand a person:

◊ seeing them from across the room, fresh loneliness on their faces. no one else is looking at them. only you are. their eyes fix onto yours, and after that moment of utter vulnerability passes, they realize it's you, and their face breaks into a smile that is for no one else. 

◊ seeing them right after they've woken up. clothes wrinkled. faces soft and eyes still sleepy around the edges, peaceful and content with being in that moment with you.

◊ watching them drop something that would be easier to leave alone, and then seeing them bend to pick it up.

◊ bending backwards under the stars, laughing but unable to see faces. your eyes cannot deceive you anymore. it's just what you hear and what you feel. you stand closer to them, without even knowing, and the feeling of their warmth beside you catches in your throat.

◊ talking to them about what they really love. asking questions. not really knowing what they're saying, but understanding it means something to them.

◊ watching their fingers on the guitar strings.

◊ watching them protect the people they care about, completely unaware of anything but keeping that person safe.

◊ watching them fall to pieces under the weight of an Invisible King, and then watching them slowly come back into something better and lovelier.

◊ when the silence is nothing more than words you don't need to say.
