You never chose the life that happens to you.
Have you noticed that? Yeah, we pretend we are in control, but we really aren't. It happens without our consent, sometimes without our knowing. I am here. You are there. We are very different, but our lives could've been reversed. I could've been there, you could've been here.
It's easy to grow angry at the life that happens to us. Because sometimes we feel like we live it alone.
I am here, and my here begins to feel oh so small and breakable and fragile. My here is a mortal place, a place that I am often afraid to face. So many mistakes. So many broken days, scattered like broken pieces of glass out on the rocks.
“Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame.
Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated.
You will forget the shame of your youth
and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.
For your Maker is your husband—
the Lord Almighty is his name—
the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer;
he is called the God of all the earth."
The sea washes up to the pier and gently handles each piece of broken glass, and when He is done, they don't look so broken anymore. Or maybe I don't mind it...the brokenness.
Our here isn't mortal at all.
For the Lord Almighty is within and around it, the One who hung galaxies and set the stars into their places and breathed the fire into their veins. Our Maker is also our lover, our promise.
Our here is a glorious broken stage, reading itself for Act II, which is promising to be the best one yet.
You never chose the life that happens to you.
And I think that's okay.
For we don't live it alone, and when it ends, we shall be ready for what happens next.

I believe in free will, but I understand what you mean. Life is not necessarily in our control, there are circumstances and things we can't help. But you put into words beautifully which I could never do :') Also, the pictures are lovely!
ReplyDeleteWa, thank you!! I so love taking them.
DeleteAnd yeah, I totally understand what you mean. I also believe in free will, a free will completely under the control of my Savior. A free will completely in His hands, which is the only safe place for me to be. ♥
